Hi from Paul Fletcher

Hi,  Im Paul Fletcher, and I have been researching several thousand decorative little patty pans, or cupcake wrappers, created in Melbourne at Barker & Co Printers, corner Eagle Alley 467 -490 Little Lonsdale st (Spencer st end of town) between 1914 and 1980. Why am I interested in the patty pans…??? Ive had to think long and hard about this… it seems I can  only see patterns more clearly ,when I zoom out or look back, It appears Ive  had a long fascination with the suburban domestic and just perhaps …patty pans fit somewhere in this pattern..

My interests also include a serious appreciation of nature, food growing and the culture or packaging that is wrapped around all this..

Patty pans are the wrapper around small cakes or cupcakes— -the  packaging both literal and metaphoric, is like the atmosphere, aspirations and identity attached and wrapped around an object - food meets art, thought and environment.

I am constructing media artwork that brings these interests together.

I have looked at a lot of the output from Barker and Co Printers thanks to the Library Collection but are still looking for anyone with any knowledge or connections to the stories of the people who worked there…or even memories of buying and using their products- please get in touch if you have a memory or story to share—- paul@paulfletcherartwork.com
